The perfect grade, PR 70 DCAM, sold for $1,438 in 2004. But on March 31 st, 1988, it went back to being a mint, which is part of the reason these pennies draw so much attention. How so? From 1962 to 1988, it was known as the San Francisco Assay Office to maintain the integrity of its proofs. This was also the year when the mint regained status.
